Your Mind Is Filled With New Ideas

The inspiration for my art came while I was reading about pioneer women who crossed the country in covered wagons. The hardship of their long days did not deter some of them from creating works of art in the form of pieced quilts. They were limited by materials but not ideas. Designs were cut and stitched from cotton rice bags, silk cigar bands and colorfully printed flour sacks. I looked around wondering what I could use as an homage to those women who had used “recycling” as an art form before it became a word.
I have continued to be excited by what I find and reuse including shredded magazine pages, plastic found on beaches and cardboard retrieved from alleys.

Making something beautiful or amusing from discarded items is gratifying, especially when it prompts discussion or a new way of seeing.
